Tips for traveling overseas

Something to remember when you’re overseas is that it’s an entire different world out there from what you are probably used to. You might want to do a little research on wherever it is that you plan on taking a vacation or traveling to that way you don’t make a fool out of yourself when you arrive. So make sure you know what the cultural expectations are! This is one of the big ones because one of the best things anyone visiting a foreign country can do is to show respect. There are all sorts of different cultures out there and you might offend someone if you don’t read up on where you’re visiting. In some countries shaking with the wrong hand or even speaking out of turn is a huge problem. Another example would be Singapore because they are extremely strict when it comes to littering and you can get thrown in jail if caught, so just make sure you do a little research before you jump across that ever blue! Something else that can be a mess is your documentation. There are different requirements from each country and some only allow you to stay for a certain amount of time. So get your passports and whatever else you might need and find out if there are any other requirements before you get there. Also you want to make sure that your shots are all up to date and check into if you need anything that you’ve never had before. You might be taking a trip somewhere that requires different immunizations and you don’t want to find out too late! Click here to can find out any sort of vaccinations you might need wherever you are going!

Now I don’t know about everyone else out there but personally I’m against credit cards, it is my opinion that they just bring trouble. However when you’re going overseas it might be a good idea to bring one along only as an emergency funding. You might come across an area that your card just doesn’t work and I’m sure that no one wants to be stuck in that kind of situation.
Lastly, be prepared for all the goodies that you’ll be bringing back home! That’s one of the best parts of traveling, isn’t it? To bring back all your souvenirs not only for you but family and friends! You want to make sure you have enough room to pack them up in your suitcase that you’ll be checking or that you can make room to take some of them on the flight with you in your carry on. And you just can’t fit that “must have” item in your suitcase or fit it on the flight with you then you could always just ship it back home, but this can be kind of pricy, so definitely save this as a last resort.
Well everyone I hope you all take these tips into consideration and enjoy any forthcoming vacations!

  1. My husband was in the Army and we were stationed in Germany for several years. We made some German friends there. we went on a double date with the German couple and I said "hey guys come over here" They got very offended!! I had no idea that was an uncommon phrase! She thought I was calling her a guy instead of it just being used as just saying hi!

I agree that it is important to be prepared before entering another country, what is normal int he U.S. may not be somewhere else!

  2. These are great ideas to think about when traveling. I have not traveled overseas, but I have traveled lots in the United States. I know that these are different when it comes to traveling, but there is a lot of stuff to remember when flying. I hope to travel overseas someday. These are great ideas that I will think about. Thanks.

I always wanted to go into Germany, I'm sure it was a wonderful experience and I hope to someday make it over there. But yea, it's very common for people to make mistakes while they're overseas. The smallest of things could set them off when you might think it's the "norm."
    Thanks for the comments!
